Mercari is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the development and operation of credit scoring models for their platform, supporting 24 million users. You will contribute to business growth by developing innovative credit scoring solutions and mentoring team members.
Must-haves
- 3+ years of experience building ML models using libraries like scikit-learn, LightGBM, PyTorch
- 1+ year of experience in model operations/MLOps (monitoring, alerting, update flows, incident response)
- 2+ years of experience with databases, SQL, and analysis/feature design
- 2+ years of experience leading teams/projects (technical selection, design reviews, mentoring)
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with team members and stakeholders
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in financial institutions or Fintech companies
- Experience with data analysis and system development in cloud environments (AWS/GCP)
- Experience developing/operating deep learning models (LLMs, foundation models)
- Experience with Off-Policy Evaluation/Learning
- Published research in ML/Data Science

Annual salary range: 10,000,000 JPY - 18,000,000 JPY. Base monthly salary starts from 669,700 JPY. Twice-yearly bonuses.
